Sports Students have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of sports in various competition formats. For some sports, teams are entered into weekly competitions, for others the students compete in Field Days organised by the Auckland Association of Intermediate and Middle Schooling, Central Zone. Sport is viewed, by the school, as an important part of the physical and social development of the emerging adolescent student and for that reason significant importance is placed on providing as many opportunities for students to participate in Sport as possible. Outdoor Education Both the Year 7 and Year 8 groups have distinctive Outdoor Education programmes. In Year 7 students are allowed time to settle into their new environment of the intermediate school, to establish new friendships and therefore are not offered the traditional 'school camp' experience until term four. In Year 8 there is a move away from school camps, the students are invited to participate in a range of recreational outdoor activities and a beach education programme with a view to positively influencing their recreational choices as future young adolescents. The Year 7 camp is held at Finlayson Park Camp on the shores of Lake Karapiro and includes a wide range of challenging and enjoyable activities. For this camp a large amount of parent support is needed and welcomed. The Year 8 EOTC week is in early term 4 and is quickly supported by the beach education programme in mid to late term 4. Once again a significant amount of parent support is required and welcomed. |
