Kapa Haka

Since establishing Kapa Haka at Waikowhai Intermediate in 2016 the group has since become better every year.  Students are given the opportunity to perform for WaiFest and then carefully selected to create the best performers who represent Waikowhai Intermediate until the end of the year.   Waikowhai Intermediate kapa haka have participated in powhiri and performances for special events such as Kahui Ako, the blessing of Te Pou o Rongo 2019, Puketapapa Citizenship Ceremony 2018 and celebrating the new elected members of the Local Puketapapa Board 2019.  They continue to perform for Matariki celebrations, Molley Green Gala, and School Productions.   The diversity of our students at Waikowhai is a challenge for those who choose to learn Te Reo Maori and tikanga Maori.  We instil wairua, mana through waiata and haka which are successfully demonstrated by our students in kapa haka.  “He waka eke noa”  We are all in together.

Check out Waikowhai's impressive kapa haka in their debut Konohete performance!
