Languages at Wai
We offer a range of languages, taught in various ways, to enrich our students’ knowledge base. Language learning is an important part of our curriculum and opens up a new world to the emerging adolescent. There are also trips available to go to some of the countries of the languages we teach, such as the a Japanese exchange with our sister school in Seto City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan.
Te Reo Maori is taught across the school with various cultural and language activities including learning waiata at music assemblies, taking part in powhiri and the Te Kupu o te Rā or Word of the Day initiative.
Japanese or Mandarin Chinese are taught by our Languages teacher as a specialist subject to Year 7 students.
A specialist teacher is on site once a week to teach Korean to our students, both in whole class settings and in smaller groups of interested students.
